News from Brussels / Week 18 – 24 February 2017
Last week the European Commission published the annual review of the economic and social situation in the Member States within the framework of the European Semester. Meanwhile, the Council agreed on further measures to tackle tax avoidance at international level and discussed new ways to strengthen consumer protection cooperation in the digital age.
News from Brussels / Week 3 - 10 February 2017
Last week the Commission, the Council and the Parliament have reached an informal agreement on the portability of online content services, making it possible for all consumers to have access to their streaming services across the EU. They also found an agreement on the Structural Reform Support Programme. The Commission, meanwhile, has published the Environmental Implementation Review, showing that existing EU environmental legislation is not fully implemented, leaving a lot of potential unused.
News from Brussels / Week 7 – 13 January 2017
Last week the European Commissioners travelled to Malta to discuss the direction in which the EU will be heading in the next six months. Also, the Commission introduced legislative measures to update data privacy and to boost the single market of services, while the candidates for the European Parliament Presidency presented themselves in a TV debate.

Asking „Can the digital single market re-connect citizens with Europe?“ Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger discussed with our guests the need for a European strategy to accelerate digitalisation and thereby emphasised the importance of appropriate infrastructure, common standards and skills to stabilise the European project.
