Last week, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker allocated the digital dossier to the Bulgarian MEP Mariya Gabriel, who was nominated by the Bulgarian government. MEPs took the final vote on new rules enabling EU citizens with subscriptions for online films, TV series, games and sport events to access this content while temporarily in another EU country. Besides, they advocated a halving of food waste in the EU and debated Brexit. As a follow-up on proposals made by the EU Commission, MEPs also discussed how the EU can tackle the negative effects of globalisation.

News from Brussels / Week 08-14 May 2017

Last week, Bulgaria nominated MEP Mariya Gabriel as Commissioner. The EU Council discussed the new anti-dumping methodology and took stock of trade relations with Chile, New Zealand and Australia. It also debated the state of play of trade negotiations with Japan, Mexico and Mercosur and discussed about the EU-Myanmar/Burma Investment Protection Agreement. The Commission identified three main action points in the Digital Single Market and published its final report on the e-commerce sector inquiry. The European Parliament held a hearing on the situation and rights of EU citizens in the UK.
