METRO GROUP’s Sustainability Performance reconfirmed by top ranking in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

METRO GROUP has once again qualified in the group of world sustainability leaders in retailing. The company has been listed as Industry Best on the leading international sustainability index Dow Jones Sustainability World (#DJSI2016 ) as well as on the Europe index, as the rating agency RobecoSAM announced.

#METROGROUP was named Industry Leader Food & Staples Retailing in 2015 already. The company's sustainability score has climbed to 84 points from 77 points in the prior year. Only four out of 44 assessed food retailers were able to qualify for the DJSI World index.
“We believe in doing the right things better and better. In the context of sustainability, this means creating added value for customers while using resources responsibly and creating positive impact for the society. This year's rating result confirms that we at METRO GROUP are on the right track.” said Heiko Hutmacher, responsible for Sustainability on METRO AG's Management Board.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices include those companies that represent the best environmental, social and economic performers in their particular industry. The DJSI World consists of about 10 per cent of the world’s largest 3,400 companies for each industry. The basis for inclusion in these indices is an analysis of companies' sustainability strategies and programmes that is conducted by independent agency RobecoSAM by means of a comprehensive questionnaire as well as publicly available sources. A total of 100 criteria are analysed as part of this process.

In 2014 METRO GROUP receives one of the leading positions in DJSI World and Europe index in its sector Food & Staples Retailing. In 2015 the company was named Industry Leader and was awarded with the Gold Class Sustainability Award by RobecoSAM.
