METRO Keeps up its Commitment with Electro-Mobility

06 November 2017
METRO AG joins EV100 Initiative

Electro-mobility is part of METRO’s strategy to reduce the total climate impact of our business operations in accordance with the 2030 climate protection target by at least 50% of CO2 emissions per square metre of retail space compared to 2011.

METRO AG, together with other international corporations, joined the Electric Vehicle 100 (EV100) Initiative in the framework of the ongoing Climate Week in New York. The aim of this initiative is to promote electro-mobility through contribution from companies, like for example installing electric charging stations for customers and employees.

By joining the EV100 Initiative, METRO commits itself with a dedicated roadmap to promote electro-mobility for its customers and employees and to integrate and implement it as an integral part of its service contracts. The founder of this initiative is the Climate Group, an international association of regions and businesses who profess their support for an active climate policy.

Currently, METRO operates 128 charging points in eight European countries (Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Austria and Ukraine) plus China and has thereby created an infrastructure for electro-mobility. The installation of further charging points at METRO Cash & Carry stores and Real hypermarkets is planned for next year.

Electro-mobility forms an essential element of our climate target of reducing our CO2 emissions per square meter of sales floor by 50% by 2030. By signing the EV100 Initiative, we want to support alternative forms of mobility to the benefit of our customers and the environment and thereby underscore our commitment to sustainability.

In addition to this, METRO has been testing the feasibility of other fuel alternatives such as natural gas and conducted pilot projects in logistics. For example, METRO local subsidiaries are currently testing the implementation of electric vehicles for delivery in Paris and Vienna.
