As a global wholesale company with a highly complex supply chain, METRO strongly welcomes the European Commission’s first Omnibus Simplification Package, which aims to reduce regulatory burdens and align sustainability reporting with operational realities.
We commend the proposed adjustment of the value chain scope under the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), as it reflects the practical limitations companies face when dealing with indirect suppliers. METRO also supports greater harmonisation and consistency across EU legislation - especially the alignment of the CSDDD with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
We emphasize the need for:
- Clarified obligations beyond tier 1 suppliers
- Phased implementation with practical flexibility
- Streamlined, relevant reporting standards
- A more proportional approach to EU taxonomy reporting
While the Omnibus Package is a major step forward, further improvement is needed to create a sustainability framework that is not only ambitious but also feasible, efficient, and business-friendly. METRO remains committed to constructive dialogue and calls on EU co-legislators to uphold this pragmatic approach.
